Archives by Category and Date is an awesome plugin that helps your archives to be categorized under category name and date. Archives are categorized under category name and date.
The WordPress dashboard also consists a widget Archives but it only displays a monthly archive of your site’s Posts whereas Archives by Category and Date categorize the archives date wise as well as category wise. It filters archives based on the category and clicked date when they are being displayed in archives page. Archives page will only show posts from the clicked date and also the posts that belong to that category. So, all in all there will be two filters while viewing archives page.
Installing Archives by Category and Date plugin is convenient. Follow steps mentioned below to install plugin
- Navigate to the ‘Add New’ in the plugins dashboard.
- Search for ‘archives-category-date’
. - Click Install Now
. - Activate the plugin on the Plugin dashboard.
- Download the plugin (.zip file).
- In your Admin, go to menu Plugins > Add.
- Select the tab “Upload”.
- Upload the .zip file you just downloaded.
- Activate the plugin.
- A new menu will appear in your admin panel.
- Once you download the plugin, you will get zip folder.
- Unzip the folder and Upload `archives-category-date` folder to the `/wp- content/plugins/` directory.
- Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.
- A new menu will appear in your admin panel.
After installation and activation of the Archives by Category and Date plugin, you will get a widget created by the plugin in the widget list as shown in the snapshot below.
Now add the Archives by Category and Date Widget in your sidebar as shown in the snapshot below.
